On June 5, 1944, thousands of ships amassed off the coast of Normandy, France in
preparation for the largest air, land, and amphibious assault ever recorded in history.

On June 6, 1944, General Eisenhower gave the order for allied troops to storm the coast
of Normandy on D-Day.  Under the command of General Omar Bradley, thousands of
American troops landed that fateful day on Omaha and Utah Beach.

Lest They Be Forgotten, Volume I, "Omaha Beach, D-Day June 6, 1944," is a powerful,
moving, first hand account from those who survived D-Day.  Now for the first time hear
the stories from those who were there over 60 years ago as they retell (many for the first
time) what it was like to land on Omaha Beach as a young, 18 or 19 year old.  This was
the first time in combat for many of these young men.

“The most extreme experience a human being can go through is being a combat
infantryman, and nowhere in World War II was the combat more extreme than at
Omaha Beach in the early morning hours of June 6th, 1944.”
(Larry Cappetto)

“We were in the very vortex of the war” (Ernie Pyle)

“I want you to know and appreciate and forever be humbly grateful to those both dead and alive who did it for you.” (Ernie Pyle)

"Your documentary series tells what war is really like and not just the glamour of Hollywood."
